Fertility

Infertility affects one out of six couples today.

According to Randine Lewis, author of the book The Infertility Cure, has said  "Traditional Chinese Medicine holds that a woman's body must be gently nourished and encouraged to bear fruit.....I found that hormonal imbalances (which contribute to 40 percent of documented cases of infertility, yet are considered to be untreateable by conventional Western medicine) respond to Eastern methods of treatment." In Lewis's experience women who have undergone  three to six months of acupuncture, dietary changes and Chinese herbs become pregnant with no further effort.

A study by the Reproductive Medical Associates (RMA of NJ)  , a large statewide New Jersey fertility clinic found that an acupuncture treatment before and after a woman receives IVF (in-vitro fertilization) embryo transfer increased the rate of embryo implementation or pregnancy by 5%. I was a staff acupuncturist at RMA for four years utilizing laser acupuncture to achieve this result of increased likelihood of getting and keeping pregnancy.

The objective of acupuncture and Chinese Medicine is to bring balance and health to the person, which is why it has been helpful in healing a variety of gynecological issues including polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), premature ovarian failure (POF), irregular periods, fibroids, endometriosis, recurrent miscarriage, immunologic reaction, luteal phase defect and mechanical infertility issues to name a few. Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine have been able to help women achieve pregnancy and are especially helpful as an adjunct treatment with assisted fertility treatments such as IVF.
